After a very successful Geoweek 2017, we are now hosting reputed Hydro-geologist and Hydrologist, Shri Shashank Deshpande. Shri Deshpande will speak on the need to artificially recharge the ground water in Pune using Rain water harvesting techniques.

The talk focuses on the need to recharge the ground water wells in a scientific manner by taking in to consideration geological and other aspects. In his talk and discussion, he will stress on the importance of why every individual should be aware of the need to take measures for artificial recharge of ground water. Further, he will discuss some simple measures which every individual / societies can take up for Rain water harvesting. During the discussion, he will also touch up on the water quality and its related issues

Shashank Deshpande is Consultant Hydrologist and Hydrogeologist who retired recently from Groundwater Surveys and Development Agency, Pune. He holds an M. Tech in Hydrology from IIT, Roorkee and has more 28 years of experience in the water sector, especially groundwater resources development and management. A Ground water evangelist, SHri Deshpande, has, during his career, successfully implemented World Bank supported projects like Users’ Centered Aquifer Level Groundwater Management, Jalswarajya I and II with the help of multi-disciplinary teams. He has also effectively implemented the village level water account activity with the help of grass-roots level bhujal sevaks, local youths, and civil society organizations under Govt of Maharashtra, UNICEF & the World Bank supported programs.

A recipient of numerous awards and author of numerous technical papers, Shri Deshpande has also conducted several workshops and awareness programs over the years. He has also authored the book “Watershed Development” published by the Research Centre, Government of Maharashtra, Pune in 2008.
