Some memories of Geolab 2019

After the highly successful Geolab 2018 & Geolab 2019 - the Inter- School Earth Science based project contest, we bring to you the third edition of the earth science project contest - The Geolab 2023.

Geolab 2023 is being organized in association with International Institute of Information Technology (I²IT), Hinjawadi, Pune 411057

As in the previous contests, schools can take part in the competition by presenting a project based on a subject related to Earth Science and our annual theme. This year the theme is - Earth Science : Exploring our planet, empowering our future. Each school can submit more than one project proposal (brief summary) for contest.

The exhibition to display the project entries will be held on 14th & 15th of September 2023. The projects will be judged by a panel of judges.

We have two categories - The Inter school category open to school teams and an Individual category open to individuals studying in classes 5th to 10th and home schooling students of ages 9 to 15 years respectively.

CONTEST GUIDELINES

  • The GeoLab 2023 Inter school project contest is based on a theme related to the field of Earth sciences encompassing subjects like Astronomy, Geography, Geology, Atmospheric sciences, Hydrosphere, Environment, etc.
  • The specific theme for the contest is "Earth Science : Exploring our planet, Empowering our Future"
  • The contest is for students from 5th to 10th standard.
  • Schools are welcome to submit more than one proposal.  
  • Qualification of entries for the contest will be based on the relevance to the subject and uniqueness of the proposed project/model.
  • Acceptance of the proposals will be made on an ongoing basis. Schools will be communicated the results within two to three days of receipt of the project proposal
  • If more than one proposal is received  from a school, only one project will be selected from among the approved proposals. In exceptional circumstances more than one entry per school may be allowed.
  • Last date for submitting the proposal is now extended till 4th September 2023
  • The projects will be judged by a panel of Geoscientists & Educationists primarily on the relevance to the topic and other aspects like creativity, visualization, perspective and originality.
  • Every team/individual will be provided with a table space of 4 X 2 feet to display the project.
  • Other guidelines will be provided later to qualifying entries.

INTER SCHOOL CATEGORY

  • Each team should not have more than four members. Each team should have a project mentor, preferably a teacher.
  • Schools are welcome to submit more than one proposal. A proposal is a brief summary and title of the project to be carried out. ( see the registration form)
  • Acceptance of the proposals will be made on an ongoing basis. Schools will be communicated the results within two to three days of receipt of the project proposal
  • Of the approved proposals, only one project may be accepted as the final entry per school. In exceptional circumstances more than one entry per school may be allowed. 
  • The top two/three entries will be awarded prizes and certificates of merit. All other participants will be awarded certificates of participation.
  • The top three / five entries may be exhibited at the ‘Geoweek 2023’ to be held in November 2023

INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY

  • Students studying in standards 5th to 10th can take part in the competition on an individual basis. 
  • They need not be sponsored or nominated by the school.
  • Children between ages of 9 and 15 and undergoing home schooling of are also eligible to participate.
  • Prizes for the best individual projects will be awarded separately.
  • The top two/three entries will be awarded prizes and certificates of merit. All other participants will be awarded certificates of participation.
