Geoweek 2019

The countdown begins... for our annual event,  the Geoweek.   We are back with a bigger and better celebration this year.  A week full of learning and fun activities...

After the grand success of Geoweeks’  in 2017 and 2018 and other learning events organized by CERG over the last two years, it’s time for Geoweek 2019.

This year’s Geoweek is being organized from 18th to 23th November 2019 and has much more to offer than last year. The overall theme for the Geoweek this year is “Earth Science Matters

Geoweek 2019 is a weeklong event conducted under the auspices of the “Geoscience for All” initiative, a volunteer initiative of professional Earth Scientists to promote Earth Literacy – translating information on Earth science into a language and learning that can be understood by the common man. The week will see a range of activities like Talks, Exhibitions, Contests and Workshops. The highlight of the week is an exhibition which is being held on from the  18th to the 21st of November at the Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery on Ghole Road.

The Exhibition features an exhibition of installations pertaining to this year’s theme – EARTH SCIENCE MATTERS'.   Also, on display will be the top 25 entries of breath-taking photographs submitted to the International Photo Contest from Geoscience lovers from across the world. The highlight of the event will be the exhibit on ‘Geo-heritage Sites of India’. The display will feature locations of Geological interest in India as identified by the Geological Survey of India and INTACH and other workers.  We also have attractive prizes to all those who correctly answer the live online quiz on the Geo-heritage sites.

The Geoweek 2019 Debate contest for college students, which is a part of the Geoweek celebrations will be held on 22nd November 2019. For more information click here

A popular talk on India''s Geoheritage will also delivered by Mr. Ravi Kumar Vundavalli, former Director of Geological Survey of India on 22nd November at 6:00 pm, at the valedictory function of the Geoweek at the same venue.

A field trip to places of Geological interest Is being organised as a part of the  Geoweek 2019.  The trip will include visits to some of the sites around Pune  like Nighoj, Gulunchwadi, Wadgaon Darya & Kanherwadi.  Breakfast and working lunch will be provided.  The tour will have qualified & professional geologists as Guides.
