Jal Katha 2025

INTERNATIONAL
SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
ON WATER

CELEBRATING WORLD WATER DAY - MARCH 2025

Water is a scarce natural resource. Even though 71% of land is covered by water, only about 2.5% of the total water available on earth is fresh water and can be used for human consumption. Water scarcity is increasingly being felt in most nations, including highly developed countries. As the demand for water increases rapidly, the supply of fresh potable water is decreasing. Rapidly growing human population, changing climates, erratic rainfall and frequent droughts are contributing to the above. This is now becoming a serious global threat.

In order to create an awareness of the importance of Water and highlight the common man’s role in protecting and avoiding wastage of this natural resource, the Centre for Education & Research in Geosciences has organized a film festival - the Jal Katha . The objective of the film festival is to encourage people to build awareness of this vital resource. Entries to the Jal Katha 2025 will be screened on Saturday 22nd March 2025 at Pune. Details of program and venue will be communicated later.

We now invite you to be a part of the fourth edition of our annual film festival on water - 'Jal Katha 2025 – Stories of Water' by contributing short films that can be a documentary, fiction, animation or feature film on water and related issues.

The objective of the film festival is to raise awareness of the water problem around the world. We believe that short films that address this issue will go a long way in promoting awareness on the importance of proper water usage and reducing it's wastage. We aim to bring together stories of water from different parts of the world and involve people of all walks of life to engage in a process of thought, deliberate, debate & introspect on the various issues around water.

Any film with the overall theme of Water is eligible to be a part of the festival. Some of the sub-themes or ideas could be Water wastage, scarcity & droughts, Water conservation, Water harvesting & augmentation, Agriculture, Global warming & its impact on water, Water & Sanitation, Water Pollution, Human habitats around water bodies, Environment & Water, Rains, etc.…in short on any topic related to Water.
